Vintage Conditions

The 2017 vintage will be regarded as a great Hunter Valley vintage, with ideal warm growing conditions leading up to vintage. After some spring and early summer rains, the vines were healthy and had plenty of foliage. Very dry and hot summer conditions with temperatures over 40 degrees meant the tannin and flavour profile of the fruit was allowed to fully mature. The 2017 red wines will be full of flavour and highly sought after.

  1. Wozza

A great drink now, well priced Hunter Shiraz with classic terroir characteristics.

I’d recommend reading up on teetotaller, Audrey Wilkinson who took over winemaking duties from his late father, aged 15. He was somewhat of a pioneer of early wine technology. Fittingly, the winery is celebrating 150 yrs of excellent winemaking.

A classic, med-bodied, dry red, with a rich colour & that sweet but earthy Hunter Shiraz nose. There’s even a nice overlay of florals too. The palate is clean and glossy. As dark cherry, boysenberry, chocolate, violets and earthen spice round out a very drinkable, easy-pleasing wine. I’m sure it’s a killer at the cellar door, and is well priced at $22.

    A Wozza 91.5/100 (3.5/5.0 stars) from me.
