This Semillon is taken from our Soldier Settler Vineyard located on sandy alluvial soils of the Broke Fordwich subregion of the Hunter Valley. This vineyard was named for the servicemen returning from WW1 who settled the area and the vines they planted in 1918 – which still grow there today.
The fruit was handpicked and immediately whole bunch pressed. The juice was lightly fined and cold settled before being racked and fermented at cool temperatures. Following fermentation, the wine was racked, stabilised, and bottled early to maintain freshness and varietal clarity.
The 2019 vintage will be regarded as a great vintage in the Hunter Valley. A dry winter was followed by good rainfall in spring and summer which set the vines up with healthy canopies. The ripening period was consistently warm and dry which resulted in yields that were slightly down but quality was very high. The white and red wines are full of flavour and will be highly sought after.
